Privacy policy
This policy covers the Tarnlo iPhone app (including its widgets) and the website tarnlo.app.
Last updated: 7 October 2026
Short version
Tarnlo does not collect your personal data. Your finances stay on your iPhone. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We only receive what you choose to send us, such as a feedback email.
Who is responsible
Jan BücheleEmail: feedback@tarnlo.app
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you enter in Tarnlo (purchases, income, payments, investments, categories, limits, notes and settings) is stored only on your iPhone and shared with Tarnlo's own widgets on the same device. We have no access to it. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Siri and Shortcuts questions, widgets, Face ID app lock and the optional Wallet tap capture are handled by iOS on your device. Wallet captures wait in a local inbox until you save or discard them.
Optional iCloud sync
If you turn on Settings → iCloud → Sync with iCloud, your Tarnlo data is stored in the private iCloud database of your Apple Account, using Apple's CloudKit. Apple stores it under its own privacy policy. We cannot see or access it.
You can turn sync off at any time; your data then stays on the iPhone. To delete the copy in iCloud, open the iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then iCloud → Manage storage (or Storage) → Tarnlo, and delete its data.
Exchange rates
If you use a currency other than your main one, Tarnlo downloads published reference rates from frankfurter.dev (rates from the European Central Bank). The request contains only the dates needed. No financial data is sent. As with any web request, the service receives your device's IP address. We do not receive or store it.
Feedback by email
If you write to feedback@tarnlo.app, including through Send feedback in the app, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. Send feedback adds the app version, iOS version and iPhone model so we can understand problems. We use this only to read your feedback and improve Tarnlo. We may not reply.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Emails to this address are forwarded by Cloudflare (Email Routing) and stored in a Google Gmail mailbox. Both companies may process data in the United States; transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. We delete feedback emails when they are no longer needed, or earlier if you ask.
Apple and the App Store
Downloads and purchases are handled by Apple. Apple gives us aggregated App Store statistics. If you chose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may also give us crash reports. None of this identifies you to us.
The website
tarnlo.app is hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages). To deliver and protect the site, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser and the time of the request. The website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare, Inc. is in the United States; transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access (Art. 15), correct (Art. 16) and delete (Art. 17) your data, to restrict (Art. 18) or object to (Art. 21) its processing, and to data portability (Art. 20). Because we hold almost no data, this mainly concerns feedback emails: write to feedback@tarnlo.app.
You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one where you live.
Children
Tarnlo is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date.
